As Head of School at Thomas Knyvett College I recognise the tremendous advantages to be gained through collaborative working within The Howard Partnership Trust. Howard of Effingham School with its strong emphasis on high standards, coupled with its Science subject specialism, has had tremendous benefit for Thomas Knyvett College through all the opportunities for staff and students alike. As a result, Thomas Knyvett College is a school that now offers maximum opportunities for children to develop academically and socially in an environment that is stimulating, caring and supportive. Ofsted in 2013 agreed and commented “Leaders have a resolute and well communicated vision for the college which ensures the support of all staff. They expect, and obtain, total commitment to the welfare and progress of students.”
The college sets high standards of behaviour that instil values which enable students to develop into confident young adults. As a comprehensive school, we provide opportunities for students of all aptitudes to achieve the very best standards. An excellent range of extra-curricular activities, including sport, is available and the college’s academic success has dramatically and sustainably improved.
Our Summer 2014 GCSE results were once again quite staggering and demonstrate the full impact of The Howard Partnership. The key performance indicators are:
• 60% of Year 11 gained 5 or more A*-C including English and Mathematics
• 78% of Year 11 gained 5 or more A*- C passes
• 76% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in English
• 66% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in Mathematics
• 76% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in Science
• 82% of Year 11 gained A*-C passes in ICT
This means that students at Thomas Knyvett College perform well above the national average and we are consistently one of the highest performing schools in the local area. As well as achieving excellent results in the core subjects the college delivers high academic standards across a broad range of subjects thus successfully enabling students’ potential, interests and aspirations to be exceeded.
Thomas Knyvett College is very successful because it has a team of well-qualified and committed people, both teachers and support staff, who are prepared to take an interest in each child. The choice of a secondary school should be based on real information and first hand experience. Open Evening is Tuesday 7 October and conducted tours will take place throughout the Autumn Term. If you wish to join us on these occasions, please telephone to arrange an appointment.
The college is well established in providing a challenging and supportive environment in which all students can be encouraged to develop their talents to the full.
